Women are the official youth organization and an additional Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The purpose of the Young Women organization is to help each young woman to be worthy to make and keep sacred covenants and receive the temple ordinances.
The first official youth association of the church-the Young Gentlemen’s and Young Women’s Help-is’ organized by church founder Joseph Smith in February 1843. Young women from church organizationsfounded by LDS Church President Brigham Young in 1869 as the Department of Cooperatives Association layoffs Young Ladies’. In forming the organization,
From 1869-1880, the new Young Women organization to function at the level of the local environment, without the general presidency. In 1871, this organization was renamed the Young Women’s Association of layoffs’, or YL for short. In 1877, the organization’s name was again changed to the National Association of Young Women’s Mutual Improvement ‘ascompanion organization for young men of the church Mutual Improvement Association, founded in 1875.
On June 19, 1880 YLNMIA first general president of the church-wide authority organized under the direction of Church President John Taylor, with Elmina Shepard Taylor as the first general president. In 1904, the name was shorted to YLNMIA Mutual Improvement Association Young Women ‘and in 1934 was changed to Young Women’s Mutual Improvement ForAssociation, or YWMIA.
